Here’s a very common mistake that most people make and funnily enough its no-one’s fault.
It is a Very Common Mistake – In thinking that you are what you eat!
Incorrect: You can have the best diet, but if you do not absorb your food then your cells do not uptake the nutrients and your body can literally starve. But at the same time put on ghastly fat, especially around the stomach area.
That’s why, everything that passes your lips must be carefully chosen…
You know the old saying, “You are what you eat!!” These days, knowledgeable health seekers and professionals are much more likely to say something far more accurate like;
“You are what you digest and what you absorb”!
This phrase is a more accurate assessment of how one can help to lose unwanted fat.
Unfortunately, with so many toxic substances in our environment today, it’s not the baby boomers I see with this challenge, but it’s widespread within the community, from young children, to the adolescent, middle aged and onto the elderly.
With poor digestion, proteins and essential nutrients like B12 aren’t being absorbed. Proteins and B12 are essential for memory, clarity and precise decision-making
Therefore if you find yourself gaining weight easily, unclear about your life,
losing focus, having difficulty in making decisions or you can’t remember why you made that decision yesterday, then you may have found the answer.
Because it’s what you digest that determines how your food will now nourish your vital organs and help you to replace those anti-aging nutrients that become depleted as a person gets older.
How you digest nutrients isn’t always the most interesting topic in losing unwanted fat or anti-aging medicine, but it’s one of the most critical for your overall well-being and future success.
Here’s why: Firstly, from an Ancient Medicine point of view, in the initial diagnosis you work out how the digestive system is working because the belief is that this is the critical place which will determine how much weight you carry, whether or not you will have a short lifespan or longevity - where living to 100 is common.
And secondly, you can eat the best food in the world and take enormous care with your diet, but if you’re not breaking that food down properly, you’re not going to absorb the nutrients within it.
Now here’s where it can get really ugly because when you can’t break down food correctly, these under-digested food particles pass through the digestive system (also known as “Leaky Gut”) and the immune system is supposed to mop up the mess. For those who have been to the Centre will have heard myself talk about leaky gut often, or perhaps you had a Haemaview..?? Then Libby or Clarence would have also talked about Leaky Gut.
Fortunately over 70% of a person’s immune system is around the digestive system. (1)
Now here’s the unfortunate part, because of this fact, if these undigested food particles, or the mess is not stopped, this can create all sorts of serious health challenges from the simple – like stomach cramps, to the more severe – like being overweight or autoimmune disease or may even cause cancer.
Also, it has been said by many researchers, this whole process accelerates Aging and Dementia exponentially. If this is not stopped the next possible epidemic to hit the western world is Alzheimer’s and/or Dementia. Not something you really want to envisage for years down the track!!! If this happens it will put an enormous strain on the already crippling healthcare system.
One of the first things we are taught in Naturopathic College is to use our senses, especially sight, to work out what someone may be suffering from. Even before they take a seat in my office, I look at their face, hands, skin tone and how they move and 9 out of 10 – I know what’s going on before they say a word.
My advice . . . Do everything you can while you’re healthy. Simple tests can evaluate your digestive health. Don’t be like most and wait for the CRISIS. Lose that unwanted fat as soon as you can so that a crisis does not occur…

P.S. From the young to the elderly always remember it’s not what you eat.. It’s how it’s digested… let’s keep our vital organs nourished…and to keep our digestive system working effectively… To have regular Haemaview tests each 3-4months is the best way to view how your digestive system is functioning.
