Weight Loss – a Thriving Industry

Studies from Medical Journal of Australia 174:561-4, show that 47% of women and 63% of men are overweight or obese in Australia, and out of seven million adult Australians aged 25 years and over (60%) were overweight. Of these, over two million (21%) were found obese according to the 1999-2000 Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study. (1)

But over the last decade as a nation we have continued to gain weight. If the current trend continues, it is estimated that by 2012, 70% of Australians will be above their healthy weight range.

This is a very worrying statistic as we are not only looking at obesity as a major problem, it is all the other related problems that we see in our Centre every day from heart disease to diabetes to chronic back pain and the list goes on and on and on.

“Obesity’s health consequences range from increased risk of premature death to serious chronic conditions that reduce the overall quality of life.”

- The World Health Organization

In today’s society weight loss is a growth industry. However, with most diet regimes today, weight loss does occur, but unfortunately when checked with a BIA (Bio Impedance Analysis) machine most of this weight is muscle loss with limited fat loss.

Here is the problem with most diets today… After the DIET has Finished most Rebound Back To Their Original Weight

If you have been on a calorie restricted regime like most of the ones you either read about or see on TV, the challenge is when your ideal weight has been achieved, the body then sends alarm signals out to increase muscle mass.

Therefore up goes the appetite and in turn up goes the weight gain - not in muscle but in fat and increased body fluid.

Each time this happens weight seems to pile on even quicker than the time before. This is because the fluid now goes into the tissues instead of the cells. This is where our specially designed program differs.

This is not only affecting adults… children are now more at risk than ever…

Statistics from CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) show more American children are overweight, continuing the steep increase that has been documented over the last two decades. The initial results for 1999 show 13 percent of children ages 6 to 11 were overweight, up from 11 percent in the previous NHANES III survey conducted from 1988 to 1994. The number of overweight teens aged 12 to 19 increased to 14 from 11 percent in the same time period. (2) This is getting worse every year.

Did you know that FAT was never intended to be a burden to the human race?It is the result of our lifestyle being out of balance. All of us have the ability to store surplus food in times of plenty as fat, to be utilised in times of food shortages. BUT the western world no longer experiences food shortages and due to the vast excesses of animal fats and carbohydrates in most processed foods today, fat is accumulating at a frightening rate.

There is even now a description of obese humans being called Wagyu humans as they have fat in their muscle. Not a nice thought. Something drastic has to be done now and we want to be part of the solution.
