What is Naturopathy?
The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease”. (Thomas Edison. )
Naturopathy or “Nature Cure” is a way of life for natural health and is a way of treating disharmony in the body, by means of various natural substances like herbs, relaxation and nutrition to name few.
Naturopathy is explained by Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno, in their book ‘Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine’ ( This book is highly recommended for any true health seeker.)
A revolution is occurring in health care. Science and medicine now have in their possession the technology and understanding necessary to appreciate the value of ’natural therapies’.

Edison’s words above are truly prophetic. And at the forefront of this revolution is Naturopathic medicine.
Although the term Naturopathy was not used until the late 19th century, its philosophical roots can be traced back to Hippocrates. It is a system of health-oriented medicine which stresses maintenance of health and prevention of disease.
It contrasts with the current disease-oriented system greatly. For example, physicians often tell patients
‘Your blood pressure is a little elevated. We’ll need to have you come in every few months to check on it’ (meaning it’s not bad enough for drugs yet); or ‘Your Pap smear came back a class III.
We’ll need to repeat it in two months to see if it changes (meaning hopefully it will get better on its own, but if it doesn’t we’ll do a cone biopsy, i.e. surgically remove the inner part of the cervix); or ‘Sure, you’re tired.
You’re getting older now, it’s normal.’
Each of these may be an example of an easily treatable condition which frequently progresses to significant disease because appropriate preventive measures are not employed.
