Using a microwave oven to cook or heat your food/beverages is a topic that we have talked about before.
It seems more and more evidence of the dangers of “zapping your food” is being found, even from many years ago. Did you know that during World War II the Germans were said to have invented the first microwave cooking apparatus as a means of providing mobile food to their troops during the invasion of the Soviet Union?
After the war the US War Department and the Russians salvaged some of these microwave apparatus to do experiments and testing on the effects of them.
The Russians spent over 20 years on extensive testing and research and were so alarmed by the findings that in 1976 banned microwave ovens (a decision that was, in later years, overturned with Political changes) and issued an International Warning on the possible environmental and biological damages linked to microwave use.
Some of the Russian findings were:
- Microwaving prepared meats caused the formation of the cancer-causing agents d-Nitrosodienthanolamines.
- Extremely short exposure of raw, cooked or frozen vegetables converted their plant alkaloids into carcinogens.
- Russian investigators found that carcinogens were formed from the microwaving of nearly all foods tested.
- Carcinogenic free radicals were formed in microwaved plants—especially root vegetables.
- The microwaving of milk and grains converted some of the amino acids into carcinogenic substances. (1)
Not only is it possible for microwaving to cause the above effects but the containers/covers used for food heating, whether plastic or paper may release carcinogenic toxins into our foods as most of the plastic containers contain BPA’s – which when heated, leach toxins into your food/water.
Most of you have made the decision to improve your health and wellbeing; you spend quite a lot of money on fresh, perhaps organic food, therefore it is such a total waste, if for the sake of time or convenience – you zap your food, killing important nutrients.
All it takes is a little pre-thought and planning ahead with our meals. If you are using a microwave oven maybe it is worth asking yourself a couple of questions, “Why expose myself to the many potential health hazards when there are safer alternatives for cooking available?”
“Is saving a little time cooking worth risking my health in the long run?”
Until next time,

P.S. This one is important . . . I trust you’ll implement what has been suggested.
P.P.S. In all the houses I have lived in, the Microwave oven spot in the kitchen has always been used for ornaments and placing personal objects. Never used for its purpose.
