| Acidity (Stomach Acidity, Heartburn)
Over acidity in the body tissues is one of the
basic causes of may arthritic and rheumatic
diseases. Reflux, stomach ulcers and Heartburn are
almost always in the wings if the body is
continually over-acidic. Balanced body chemistry
is essential to immune system maintenance and
disease correction. A healthy body keeps large
alkaline reserves to met the demands of too many
acid producing foods. When these are depleted
beyond a 3:1 ratio, health can be seriously
threatened.
Acne, Pimples & Skin Blemishes
Skin disorders are due to Chronic Inflammatory
diseases of the skin, with lesions occurring most
frequently on the face, chest and back. There is
an overactivity of the sebaceous glands of the
skin. Excessive sebum blocks the gland openings
which become infected & inflamed. It appears to
have three main underlying causes:
- Hormonal changes during puberty, or at any time
- Poor diet
- and the body's inability to eliminate waste.
Although teenage acne is extremely common (4 out
of 5 teenagers develop it) adult acne is now more
prevalent, a clear sign of our modern poor diet.
Whiteheads are plugs of oil and dead skin cells
under the surface of the skin that block oil from
flowing freely to the skin surface. They can turn
into blackheads when they reach the surface of the
skin.
The importance of a good diet is important,
including the need to reduce sugars and fried
foods. Supplements including zinc, may be given to
promote healing, reduce scarring and inhibit the
growth of acne producing organisms. Importantly
zinc levels should be measured before zinc is
prescribed. Essential Fatty Acids helps alleviate
acne but results may not be noticed until 3 months
of supplementation. An antimicrobial skin healing
lotion is recommended to help the skin heal.
Acute Injuries Definition
Acute injuries may include any muscular skeletal
problem that brings about pain. This may occur
after sport, accidents or over the years from pain
flaring due to an old injury. A low frequency
light machine along with Structural Balancing and
Bowen Technique can be used. Natural anti-
inflammatory herbs like Boswellia, Turmeric and
vitamins are used to repair connective tissue and
cartilage.
Allergies
Respiratory allergies can be triggered from
environmental pollutants such as smoke fumes and
seasonal conditions such as dust, pollen or
spores. The important word to understand here is
trigger. Triggers like dust, pollens, chemicals
etc. are not the cause, they are the triggers. The
cause needs to be found and it usually has a
direct link with the inability of the liver,
digestive system or immune system to work
effectively. This type of allergic reaction often
occurs when the body has an excess of mucous,
which breeds irritants. Often common medications
mask symptoms and have a rebound effect; the more
you use them the more you need them.
To specifically pinpoint allergies, a Vega Test
can be performed. This can identify major triggers
or allergies to wheat, melons, dairy and sugar. A
homeopathic remedy and herbal medication can be
used along with other medications that can be
successful in treating viruses and bacteria.
Alzheimer's Disease
The growing number of people living into their
early 50?s to 90?s is evolving into a population
of people who suffer from significant loss of
memory, thought and language. Alzheimer's disease,
a serious health problem is now a common
condition. Many of those diagnosed are really a
victim of too many drugs and or have several
nutritional deficiencies that can be easily
improved.
The symptoms include the loss of ability to think
clearly or remember past or present facts, names,
places etc., loss of touch with reality,
confusion, impaired judgement, difficulty in
completing thoughts or following directions and
personality and behavioural changes. Even in
earlier years memory loss or brain fog can be a
problem. People even in their late 20?s are now
coming in with brain fog, cold hands and feet,
bloating and mood swings. If these symptoms do not
seem to clear up after a short period of time then
some Naturopathic or preventative help may be
required.
With any process of chronic ill health the
diagnosed condition usually takes a number of
years before it becomes serious. Diabetes is an
example. If someone has a binge on chockies for
one day, Diabetes is not the end result. However
if these types of foods are eaten on a regular
basis over a 20 year period Diabetes may be the
end result. The same goes with Alzheimer's Disease
and Dementia as it takes many years before severe
chronic symptoms become evident. Preventative
medicine is best.
Anti-Aging Program
Factors which accelerate aging include:
To ensure longevity and vitality we must remove
these stimulants and promote the correct healing
processes of the body. The following multi step
procedure we use for most of our clients at the
clinic concerned with anti aging can correct the
processes that lead to accelerated aging.
Clients can be put onto an Anti-Aging program
which may include:
-
Detoxification to promote normal digestive
processes, with gut flora balance and proper
elimination.
-
We also helped to repair any gut dysfunction and
supported liver detoxification and eliminate any
potential allergenic dietary factors
-
We gave a balanced diet that helps to regulate
blood glucose levels, as high blood glucose levels
is closely associated with rapid tissue aging and
chronic disease progression. We reduced her
inflammation associated with the pain in her knees
with herbs and essential fatty acids.
-
Anti oxidant support was also given because
antioxidants are fundamental to prevent DNA damage
and to assist in longevity and health.
-
Putting clients on the Wellness and Longevity
program to increase muscle tone. This consists of
exercises specifically designed to assist in the
prevention of muscle wasting and toning of the
body is included as part of the Anti-Aging
program.
Anxiety
There are two different categories of how people
display stress or anxiety. The first is the
explosive personality and the second a more
withdrawn, anxious person. Stress in today's
lifestyle can be an almost a daily occurrence for
some people. You can go to bed stressed and wake
up stressed whether it is from personal
relationships, working conditions or lack of work,
pressures put on you from others or pressures that
you may place on yourself or just the everyday
stresses of living in our western society. Stress
is made worse by a poor diet with a high intake of
refined sugars, a lack of exercise and insomnia.
Arthritis
Arthritis is the country's number one crippling
disease. It is not a simple disease in any form
affecting not only the bones and joints but also
the blood vessels, kidneys, skin, eyes and brain.
It's causes are linked to lifestyle habits and
wear and tear. Many conventional treatments do not
effectively treat the disease. The term arthritis
meaning joint inflammation refers to over 100
rheumatic diseases that attack joint and
connective tissue.
The main forms of arthritis are Osteoarthritis and
Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Arthritis - Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease and
is the most common form of arthritis. It often
appears in the weight bearing joints like the
knees, hips and spine and in the hands where there
is much cartilage destruction followed by
hardening and the formation of large bone spurs on
the joints. The first sign of osteoarthritis show
up as morning stiffness especially in damp
weather, then pain from movement that worsens with
prolonged activity. Osteoarthritis is a condition
of age because decades of use lead to degenerative
changes in joints and the decreasing ability of
the body to repair itself. Although Osteoarthritis
affects more women than men, a man who is 40 kilos
overweight doubles the risk of knee and hip
arthritis. Food allergies almost always contribute
to osteoarthritis symptoms so good detoxification
is a good place to start in the healing process.
Today we know that osteoarthritis is repairable.
Numerous scientific studies have shown that
glucosamine sulphate, a natural body substance
that stimulates the production of cartilage
components, works even better than standard drugs.
Trreatments include acupuncture and treatments on
the Light machine. Herbs can be prescribed that
reduce inflammation as well as helping to repair
connective soft tissue. Other nutrients are
prescribed to repair cells in the body and also to
relieve pain.
Arthritis - Rheumatoid
Rheumatoid Arthritis affects a fast majority of
the population mainly women. It is a chronic,
auto- immune, inflammatory disease whose primary
target is the joint lining of the synovial
membrane. When this connective membrane becomes
inflamed, it invades and damages nearby bone and
cartilage, resulting in pain, stiffness, loss of
movement and eventually destruction of multiple
joints. Damage goes even further because
Rheumatoid Arthritis also causes inflammation of
the blood vessels and the outer lining of the
heart and lungs. People who have Rheumatoid
Arthritis also have digestive problems, great
fatigue, anaemia, ulcerative colitis, chronic lung
and baronial congestion and liver malfunction.
Common causes include;
-
calcium depletion
-
gland and hormone imbalance and especially adrenal
exhaustion
-
prolonged use of aspirin and cortico-steroid drugs
that eventually impair the body's own healing
powers
-
poor diet lacking fresh fruit and vegetables and
high in acid and mucous forming foods and food
allergens.
Asthma
Asthma is a reversible airway obstruction. It is
characterised by wheezing caused by the bronchial
tubes going into spasm or through inflammation or
excessive mucus production. Some forms of asthma
are related to food sensitivities, gut intolerance
and poor liver clearance of toxins. Detoxification
will reduce toxin producing micro-organisms and
food allergen sensitivities which may contribute
to asthmatic attacks.
Contributing factors that can trigger an asthma
attack are chemicals such as:
-
tartrazine,
-
EDTA,
-
Sodium benzoate
-
menthol
-
quinine
-
sulphites
that are found in may processed and packaged
foods.
Sensitivities include:
-
caffeine
-
nitrates
-
egg whites
-
MSG
-
nitrite
-
shellfish
-
strawberries
-
and reactions to ethanol
Bowel toxicity or history of constipation also are
contributing factors leading to some asthma
attacks.
Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is defined as changes to the walls
of the arteries consisting of accumulated fats or
lipids, smooth muscle cells and fibrous tissue.
This can otherwise be known as hardening of the
arteries. Environmental toxins and stimulators of
inflammation such as free radicals, allergies and
infections are able to cause damage to the
arterial wall, thereby promoting atheroma build
up. Contributing factors that can lead to
atherosclerosis are:
The problem can be helped by a strong antioxidant
and essential fatty acids to break down the
thrombocyte aggregate, to reduce the
atherosclersosis progression and the risk of heart
attack. A modified diet can assist the elimination
of toxins from the body.
Benign Prostate Problems
Symptoms can include feelings of discomfort and
fullness, incomplete urination, dripping after
urination, frequent urination especially during
the night, bladder distension, blood in urine,
loss of urinary flow or control and painful
urination. Contributing factors include excess
alcohol intake and a diet high in animal meat and
fats.
A special zinc test can be used to identify zinc
levels and the use of a modified diet. Special
vitamin and herbal supplementation are also used.
Special herbal teas can be introduced as these
teas help to reduce prostate symptoms and
revitalise energy.
Biliousness
Biliousness is due to the improper breakdown and
processing of food causing an upset stomach. The
organs involved are the stomach, pancreas, liver,
the intestines and gallbladder.
A blend of herbs which can be used to restore and
improve the effect of digestion, absorption and
improve elimination. These herbs also can help
improve liver function and repair gastrointestinal
(gut) tissue. A modified diet allowed the gut to
repair and to decrease the intake of toxins into
the body. In ancient Chinese & Indian medicine the
digestive system is the “seat of life”.
Bone Loss or Osteoporosis
Bone loss or Osteoporosis is an absolute and
progressive decrease in bone tissue mass. The
contributing factors are:
-
a lack of exercise
-
or for that matter excessive exercise (body
builders, triathletes)
-
use of oral contraceptives
-
corticosteroid use as in some asthma medication
-
smoking
-
menopause
-
coffee consumption
-
and a diet high in protein and a high consumption
of soft drinks like coke etc.
An osteoporosis risk factor urinary test can
indicate calcium loss. Supplements can be given to
support bone tissue, the supplement providing
nutrients necessary for bone growth and repair.
This is a special formula, as a high degree of
calcium supplements are very hard to digest. Other
supplements, such as Ipriflavone increases bone
density and also decreases the fracture rate of
osteoporotic or osteoarthritis sufferers. This
supplement helps in the uptake of calcium
supplements.
Treatment includes acupuncture and use of the
light machine. Weight bearing exercises that are
not overly stressful can be beneficial to
potentially fragile bones and used to maintain
adequate bone density and strength.
Bursitis
Bursitis pain is an acute swelling of the bursa,
which are the filled protective sacs that are
located where tendons or muscles pass over bony
protrusions. Acute bursitis is characterised by
pain, localised tenderness, reduced range of
motion, swelling and redness are also common
symptoms. Chronic bursitis may turn into
adhesions, calcium deposits, muscle wasting and or
a frozen shoulder. Contributing factors include
trauma, acute or chronic infection, inflammatory
or rheumatoid arthritis, chronic overuse, gout and
organisms such as staph infection.
Acupuncture and use of the Light machine can be
effectively used for this condition. Prescribed
herbs can reduce inflammation as well as helping
to repair connective soft issue. B12/ Folate can
be also used to repair cells in the body.
